According to journalist Alan Nixon, League Two Wrexham may be about to turn to Barnsley forward James Norwood to boost their chances of a second successive promotion.
Nixon claims Wrexham are keen on Norwood who scored 11 times last season for the Tykes. This potential move could be accelerated after Wrexham striker Paul Mullin suffered a punctured lung during his side's pre-season friendly win over Manchester United in America. Mullin is due to miss the start of the new season and will be a huge loss for Phil Parkinson`s side. Whether Norwood would want to drop down a league to join Wrexham is unknown but the Tykes now have a number of strikers at Oakwell with the recent signings of Max Watters and Andy Dallas. Barnsley agreed to retain Norwood for a further 12 months this summer but could the Yorkshire club be about to cash in on a player they signed for free last season? Whether Norwood is interested in a move away from Oakwell is unknown. Yet the prospect of signing for a high profile outfit in Wrexham with their new American superstar owners and presumably a payrise in his final few seasons could be an attractive proposition. Authors views: It is difficult to know whether this speculation has momentum or is one journalist hoping to generate more subscribers to his patreon account. As a Barnsley fan, I would hate to see Norwood leave even though we have plenty of cover in the striker position. You can never have enough goal scorers in your squad. It wouldn't surprise me if the Barnsley board chose to cash in on Norwood and make a profit. Wrexham have become the media darlings of the EFL just like Salford City were a couple of seasons back so a move to North Wales would be tempting for the player. Fingers crossed nothing comes of this speculation and Norwood plays in the red of Barnsley this season and not the red of Wrexham.
