Tyler Smith Anyone?

The Yorkshire Post published an article today entitled:

11 free agents who may interest Barnsley FC including Sheffield United, Huddersfield Town, Leeds United and Hull City stars

You can review the list here:

The free agents listed hardly filled me with excitement, with one exception! Sheffield born Tyler Smith. Once described as the next Kylian Mbappé by Hull City fans, which was a reflection of his footballing ability rather than any indication of a petulant attitude.

Here's his 5 Hull City Goals:

While not prolific for Hull, with only 5 goals to his name, his game-time was limited. Here's a glimpse at what originally tempted the Tigers to sign him up:

I for one rate Tyler very highly having watched him play several times. Reds fans may recall his glaring miss against us on his debut for Oxford, but don't judge him on that miss or overall performance that day. I can only put that one down to the fact he'd only just arrived and hadn't had any time to settle and get a feel for Oxford's style of play.

I'd love to see him in a Reds shirt, but how realistic is that? His arrival at Oakwell was rumoured in January of this year, as he admirably looked for opportunities away from the MKM Stadium to get more time on the pitch. We didn't get this one over the line back then, but maybe we'll take a second look now he's a free agent? A Tyler Smith Jimmy Norwood combo is reminiscent of the Fraizer Campbell Dean Windass combo from Hull's 2007-2008 promotion winning side, where old lion (no offence Jimmy) and young lion jelled, and were able to tame whatever was put in front of them.

Neil from Tykes TV commented:

"He looks like he has some ability, but he didn't do it at Oxford, so the jury is still out on him for me. He's a local lad so who knows?"

Hull City YouTube sensation @Old_GrandpaJoe told BarnsleySport:

"I think he'd be a good addition for you in League One if you play to his strengths. He's got lightning pace, and he'll score a few goals for you."

It's a yes from me!
