PORTSMOUTH MANAGER CUTS A FRUSTRATED FIGURE AFTER DRAW TO BARNSLEY

After his side conceded a late equaliser to Barnsley in the 1-1 draw at Fratton Park on Saturday, Portsmouth manager John Mousinho appeared frustrated to only come away with a point.

Bobby Thomas headed in a late equaliser to salvage a point on the road for the reds who have now picked up 7 points from the last 9 available.

Thomas`s goal should have been the winner had referee Andy Woolmer allowed the reds the advantage when Josh Martin was fouled on the edge of the Portsmouth area. The ball fell to Devante Cole who calmly slotted the ball home only for Woolmer to stop play and award the earlier free kick for Barnsley.

Colby Bishop had earlier given Pompey the lead on 49 minutes, slotting home a deep cross.

Mousinho cut a frustrated figure post match when he spoke to The News:

‘When you are trying to get into the play-offs these are the games you need to win against sides in and around those positions. ‘These are the games when you are 1-0 up you need to win to close the gap on those teams. ‘There’s Peterborough, this one and then Plymouth next week. ‘We have to pick up points against sides that up there, because that’s how you make up the ground. ‘So that is the most frustrating thing. ‘I think with the squad we’ve got and picking up a couple of decent results we should be thinking about the play-offs still. ‘I think we’ve shown we’re a good team and we’ve added quality in Paddy and Di’Shon. ‘We have to keep producing the performances and see where that takes us.’

The result leaves Barnsley 6th in the table on 47 points and Portsmouth 10th on 38 points.

The reds next face Cambridge United at home next Saturday whilst Portsmouth travel to Plymouth Argyle.
